Church dresses and silly girls

Since it seems that I always post pictures of my girls wearing dirty play clothes or nothing, I thought I'd put some pictures up of them actually dressed in decent clothes. I love the dress that Maddie is wearing and I'm also a little partial to sailor dresses because my mom made my brothers and I sailor outfits when we were little. These were taken after church last Sunday.

Daddy's home!

Joe is back from Del Rio after being gone since Tuesday afternoon. We all missed him so much and the girls were giddy with excitement when he came home. Thankfully my parents were around to help us out. Thanks Mom and Dad!

Joe and the girls coloring with sidewalk chalk before Joe had to go work on the duplex. Poor guy was welcomed home with a "smashed by a drunk" mailbox repair. Also one of the A/Cs over there stopped working, but Joe was able to talk me through a repair on the phone and my tenants were smart enough to be able to follow directions from me. Very impressive. So glad that crisis was averted at least temporarily.

29 week appointment

I am quite overwhelmed after my appointment today but hopefully I can get my thoughts out in a coherent manner.

The appointment started out with an ultrasound to measure the boys growth. Baby A is still head down (yay!) and Baby B is still laying across the top of my stomach. I was watching as the tech was measuring and I kept seeing big scary numbers coming up like 33 weeks for the head measurement. I was pretty quiet as she was measuring, thinking "why do my kids always have huge heads???"

When she was done she set back in her chair, sighed, looked at me and said "A weighs 3 lbs 12 oz and B weighs 3 lbs 12 oz too. These are big babies". Uh yeah - I can't remember the exact number but it was between the 80 and 90th percentile (and yes for a single baby). I think this particular tech tends to measure babies a little big, but still, here I am at 29 weeks with around 7.5 lbs of babies in me. Explains why I am so huge and comfortable...

Then she gives me some pictures of my boys to take with me. Normally I like these, but today she only gave me two pictures - one of each of the boys' parts. Uh thanks. Can't wait to show these to Emily who was promised new pics of her brothers.

I then met with my OB. Everything looked good except maybe my face because the first thing my OB said was "You look exhausted". Nice... I measured 37 weeks today, still anemic, still have varicose veins. The most disconcerting thing about the appointment was a comment that my OB made - something to the effect of "we'll be happy if you make it 4 more weeks". Uh excuse me?? I need to make it a lot longer than that for the sake of these little boys. I think she was implying that my body may kick them out around that time, but I'm just not sure. I can't think of any specific reason that I would only last 4 more weeks. So now I'm obsessing about this and trying to remember what happened in the appt to make her say that. Next time I am bringing someone with me since I can't seem to think straight.

28 weeks

Here I am at 28 weeks after a long day. It was just the girls and I until 6:30 this evening! Normally I wouldn't post such unflattering photos of myself, but for the sake of other twin mommies-to-be, I am taking one for the team. I have already gained the same amount of total weight as I did with each of previous pregnancies. My mom and Joe think that I look the same as I did at the end of both of those pregnancies too. I believe it because the skin on my tummy hurts and it feels like its going to rip apart at any moment. I was able to lose all the baby weight after the girls and I am really hoping that happens again this time!!!

Bye Bye Uncle Pete

Yesterday we had a going away party for Joe's brother Pete. He stayed with us over the summer while working for Joe. We had the classic surf 'n turf for his dinner. Yum! We wanted to get a picture of Joe and Pete and the girls before he left. The girls have been very interested in Pete all summer but a little intimidated by his size. They both finally warmed up at the end and wanted to kiss him good night every night. Maddie however, took to him a little more and liked to flirt with Uncle Pete! She didn't mind being plopped into his lap for some pictures. Here are just a few of the pictures we tried to get - none of them turned out too well.

Emily - 34 months

This month was both fun and challenging with Emily.
- She discovered braids and wants to have pigtails with braids.
- All of a sudden she uses the words "actually" and "accidentally" 100 times a day.
- She screams "yellow car" EVERY single time she sees one.
- She mastered a ridiculously intricate 26 piece alphabet puzzle that the MacGregors brought her back from Sri Lanka.
- While the Booseys were here, she spent as much time as she could playing with and attempting to help Dylan. She loved to push him around the house on her Winnie the Pooh train.
- I think she gets the fact that my belly holds her 2 brothers and she is always asking me to eat good food "for my brothers". Seriously, she will hand me a piece of her fruit or insist that I drink a glass of milk.

Recently, she asked me to get her a washcloth so she could clean the table that "Daddy worked really hard on". Of course this is true and something that I've said to her at least a few times. Its interesting to hear everything you say repeated back to you at a later date. Not so sure I like this daily reflection of myself but it makes me want to try harder to be a good mom. Of course that feeling only lasts a little while because then my left leg goes numb, Emily rips a toy out of Maddie's hand, and Maddie bites her. Ah well, back to the reality of putting out fires.

Uh, get that thing out of my face (also notice under her eye where I forgot sunscreen, bad mommy)

Maddie - 17 months

Maddie has grown a lot this month and is really starting to experiment with words. Off the top of my head, some of the words she says are ball, boo boo, milk, more, Mom, Dad, dog, bird, cat, mine, open, hat, book, Pop, Ma Ma (Grandma), fork, spoon, nana (banana), ooooo (orange), hi, bye, and of course NO! All of a sudden, I realized that she understands 90% of what I say to her. She follows commands and loves to help everyone when she can. She is still fascinated with shoes of all kinds and sizes, doesn't matter who it belongs too! She is still a little cuddle-bum who puckers like a fish to give a kiss and also gives eskimo kisses. She is starting to get that something special is happening in my belly and gives her brothers kisses. I'm not sure that she gets there are actual babies in there, but she does give them kisses and zuberts. Love you Maddie Mae!

27 week appointment

Today I finally had an appointment with my OB after my unexpected trip to Labor & Delivery last Wednesday. Everything still looks good - I measured 34 weeks, normal blood pressure, etc. No official bed rest, thank goodness, but I just need to lay down and rest when the cramping starts. I have gained quite a bit of weight (and to think I was actually worried about that). I need to start slipping Joe protein shakes and oreos so I don't end up weighing more than him by the time this is over.
My OB checks for the twins' heartbeats by ultrasound, so I got to have a quick peek at the babies. Baby A happened to be head down today! I pray that he stays that way. Poor Baby B had A's bum in his face.
We still don't have names for the boys, but now Joe will talk with me about possibilities!

Farewell: A little late

We took these pictures last week right before Jennie, James, and Dylan left to go back to Omaha. We had a great time while they were staying with us and lots of good eating too. Emily and Maddie loved spending time with Dylan and they still talk about him almost every day.

Haircut: Round 2

Emily: 1
Mom and Grandma: 1

We fared a little better today. She was more agreeable and Grandma managed to cut a first pass. Its a little uneven but looks pretty good. Its still really tangly though. Everytime she gets in her carseat, it mats up. Pictures to follow.

Haircut: Round 1

Emily: 1
Mom and Grandma: 0

"Me no want to" while clinging desperately to me.

More rounds to come I'm sure, we don't give up that easy and the kid really needs a trim. Some of that hair is almost 3 years old.

Sisters?

I was thinking to myself about how Maddie was almost 17 months old and then I realized that Emily was 17 months old when Maddie was born. I'm glad Maddie will have a few more months to be the baby before her life is turned upside down. I just don't think she's ready to be the big sister yet.

Anyway, here are both the girls at almost 17 months. There are a few similarities like the Pebbles hairstyle, but for the most part, I don't think they look that much alike.

26 weeks

Here are some pictures at 26 weeks. If you don't like bare pregnant bellies, don't scroll below. My belly button alternates between being an outtie and being flat. I seriously don't now how much bigger I can get but obviously I am going to get bigger. I've had a lot of help these last few weeks, which means lots of rest, so everything is going pretty well right now.

100 days!

Today marks 100 days until my 40 week due date. Wow!

Of course its more likely that they will be born before that day. On average, twins are born at 36 weeks (broken record here). So maybe I should say 72 days!! Did you get that Joe? They are going to be here soon. I am sooooo not ready, are you?

If you are into prayer, please pray that Baby A will make it into the head down position before his birthday. If he doesn't, I will have to have a c-section. Sure, plenty of moms have survived this, but I don't want to be one of them!
